Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim releases statement on not seeking re-election
“Representing the residents of District 8 for the last five-plus years has been an honor and a privilege, and the highlight of my career.”
Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim released a statement on Thursday explaining why he will not seek re-election in the fall.
“My wife, Grace, and I recently welcomed our first child, Leo, and after long discussions with family and friends I have decided that the time is right to give someone else the incredible opportunity to represent the neighborhoods of Mission Hill, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, the West End, Fenway, Kenmore, and Audubon Circle on the Boston City Council,” he wrote on Facebook.
The 35-year-old, who was elected in 2013, called the last five years representing the city’s 8th District the “highlight of [his] career.” Zakim unsuccessfully challenged Secretary of State William Galvin in the Democratic primary last September.
“Whatever my next role is, I look forward to continuing to serve the public good in Boston, Massachusetts, and beyond,” he said in his statement.
