Tom Brady isn’t as recognizable as Bernie Sanders, new poll says

It might be hard for New Englanders to comprehend, but Tom Brady is apparently not as well-known as they might think.

A new poll conducted by Morning Consult and Vox surveyed registered voters to see how many could correctly identify photos of the 2016 presidential candidates compared to a few very prominent celebrities.

Ninety-seven percent of the 2,028 people polled last week correctly identified Hillary Clinton; 96 percent correctly identified Donald Trump.

But how many recognized the New England Patriots quarterback out of uniform?

Fifty-six percent, which is even less than the percentage that recognized Jeb Bush (77 percent), Bernie Sanders (69 percent), and Ted Cruz (61 percent).

On the bright side for Brady, his face was more recognizable than Marco Rubio, Mike Huckabee, Rand Paul, Rick Santorum, John Kasich, and Martin O’Malley, respectively.

According to the poll’s crosstabs, 64 percent of men recognized the Patriots quarterback, versus 48 percent of women. Republicans (58 percent) were more likely to recognize Brady than Democrats (50 percent). The Patriots quarterback’s recognizability also increased with the individual’s level of education and income.

Marketability aside, Brady’s recognizability is likely less important to his career than it is for presidential candidates.

Despite the fact that Sanders might be more well-known nationally than the Patriots quarterback, the fact that 22 percent of Democrats couldn’t recognize him could be a problem in states outside of Iowa and New Hampshire.
