Ebola Patient Went Bowling, Took Uber Car Before Diagnosis
A doctor who treated Ebola patients in Africa has now been diagnosed with the virus in a New York City hospital.
The New York Times reports that Craig Spencer was placed in isolation at Bellevue Hospital on Thursday after running a 103-degree fever with diarrhea. Spencer returned from Guinea more 10 days ago and first exhibited symptoms Wednesday.
The Manhattan doctor said he rode in an Uber car and took the subway from Manhttan to Brooklyn before he was admitted to the hospital, though he did not feel ill at the time.
Ebola can only be transmitted via contact with an infected person’s bodily fluids.
“We can safely say that it is a very brief period of time that patient has had symptoms,’’ New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio told a press conference earlier Thursday.
Spencer is the fourth patient to be diagnosed with the disease in the United States.
A press conference about the case is scheduled for 9 p.m.
