As longtime 7News anchor Kim Khazei signs off, Jadiann Thompson will take over for her, the station announced Tuesday.
Khazei has worked at WHDH for over 20 years and is leaving the newsroom to move closer to family, including her first grandchild.
Thompson, who joined the station 10 years ago, will co-anchor the weekday newscasts at 5, 6, 10, and 11 p.m. with Adam Williams beginning on Jan. 1.
Currently, Thompson anchors the weekday newscasts at 4, 4:30, 5:30, 6:30, and 9 p.m., and she helped launch the 9 p.m. newscast in 2017, which “quickly became one of the highest rated newscasts” in the city, according to the announcement.
“We’re thrilled to expand her time on the anchor desk in our late-night newscasts,” WHDH-TV/WLVI-TV Vice President & General Manager Jimmy Rogers said in a statement. “Jadiann is a dedicated and experienced journalist. She and Adam will make an excellent team.”
Thompson called the promotion “a dream come true” in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
In a Nov. 11 post commemorating her 10-year anniversary at 7News, Thompson wrote, “What a decade it’s been! I had never been to Boston before. I moved here on a weekend and started work on Monday and now it’s home!”
Before coming to Boston, Thompson graduated from the University of Arkansas and reported, anchored, produced, and directed in Kansas City, Phoenix, and Casper, Wyoming.
She also volunteers with organizations working to cure ALS, as a tribute to her grandmother who died from ALS, the announcement says.
