Longtime 7News anchor Kim Khazei will be signing off at the end of the year, the station announced Tuesday.
Khazei joined the station in 1994 and currently anchors the news at 5, 6, 10, and 11 p.m. with her co-anchor Adam Williams.
“We are grateful for Kim’s dedication, and unwavering commitment,” Jimmy Rogers, WHDH-TV/WLVI-TV vice president and general manager, said in a statement. “Her presence on the anchor desk, as a trusted, reliable voice in Boston, for more than two decades, leaves an impact beyond her departure.”
The announcement highlighted a number of major stories, from Patriots’ Super Bowl wins to two royal weddings, that Khazei has covered at the station.
“There hasn’t been a major story in the last 20 years that Kim hasn’t shared with our viewers,” Linda Miele, the company’s news director, said in a statement.
Khazei had her three children while working at 7News and left for six years in 2001 to raise them full-time, the announcement says. Her first born recently had her first child, and she is relocating to be closer to them.
“Going back to 1994, this station has been my second home, and our viewers have been like family,” Khazei said in a statement. “I’m excited to take a breath, spend time with loved ones and see what comes next. I’ll always be grateful to [station owners] the Ansin family and the people at Sunbeam TV for the opportunity and for my many colleagues who will be lifelong friends. And I’ll always be cheering on the incredible team at 7News!”
