A routine walk turned tense Tuesday evening when three coyotes surrounded a woman and her dog in a Brookline neighborhood, police said.
Police officers responded to the intersection of Sargent Road and Codman Road for a report of screams at 8:16 p.m., Brookline police said.
The woman told police that one of the coyotes was trying to attack her dog, but she held her dog back and screamed, trying to appear larger by waving her arms in the air.
The woman walked to the closest house, and her neighbors brought her inside to call the police.
The dog walker said that the coyotes followed her to the driveway of the neighbor’s house.
The coyotes did not make contact with any humans or dogs.
Brookline police say coyote sightings are fairly common. Coyotes are typically scared of humans but can be aggressive towards domestic pets.
