A 72-year-old driver crashed his vehicle into the first floor of a dentist’s office off of Davis Square in Somerville on Wednesday morning, prompting road closures and diversions during the early morning commute.
According to the city, the crash happened at 6:45 a.m. at 67 Holland St. When first responders arrived, they found that the vehicle had crashed through the first-floor storefront. The car sustained major front-end damage.
Somerville firefighters extracted the driver, who had minor injuries. First responders transported the man to the hospital.

The city says that the dentist’s office was closed at the time of the crash and no one was inside.
Firefighters shored up the structure to safely remove the vehicle.
The strip includes ground-floor medical offices and several other storefronts with apartments above. The city’s inspectional services examined the building and determined that the spaces are safe for occupancy.
