A 76-year-old woman from Pembroke died Tuesday after she was struck by an SUV while crossing the street in Hanson, officials said.
Hanson Police received a 911 call around 6:08 p.m. Tuesday reporting a pedestrian crash in the area of 22 Main St. involving a white Honda CR-V. The woman, identified as Donna Mark, was “lying on the roadway with obvious trauma to her lower extremities,” police said in a statement shared on its X page.
Hanson EMS was preparing to take Mark to a landing zone to meet a Medflight helicopter, but when her condition changed, she was instead taken in an ambulance to South Shore Hospital. It was there that she was pronounced dead.
Based on preliminary stages of the investigation, it seems Mark was walking north across Main Street when she was struck. A motorist driving east had stopped to let her go by, but as she continued across the street, she was hit by a second eastbound car.
The Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit is conducting the investigation, which is ongoing. Officials did not indicate whether the driver, a woman who stopped at the scene, will face charges.
