A black bear was spotted by multiple residents of Haverhill this week, according to the Haverhill Police Department.
The police advise nearby residents to take the necessary precautions to keep themselves safe.
If you see the bear, do not approach, feed, or attempt to photograph it, police said. More importantly, the police advise you not to run from a black bear. Instead, make yourself appear big and make as much noise as possible.
Homeowners should be advised to bring bird feeders, livestock, garbage, and pets to a safe place. That could be indoors or another secure location.
Those with further non-emergency questions can call the Massachusetts Environmental Police Dispatch (800-632-8075) or MassWildlife Northeast District (978-772-2145). However, if there is an emergency, call 911, police advise.
