Jucelena Gomes Ramos, 16, was walking with her 17-year-old boyfriend along Washington Street in Codman Square Sunday evening when gunfire erupted.

Gomes was killed, her boyfriend injured, and another man also injured in the incident, Boston’s first homicide of 2022, according to The Boston Globe.

Gomes was headed to her grandmother’s house in Dorchester to braid a 10-year-old relative’s hair.

“It was unbelievable until I saw the body,” Marize Gomes, her aunt, told the newspaper. “I’m still shocked to be honest with you.”

No arrests have been made yet in the incident. Gomes leaves behind her parents, and two younger brothers, according to the newspaper.

Gomes was a junior in high school. She enjoyed braiding hair and would show the styles she completed on her Instagram, the Globe reported. She also loved cheerleading, basketball, and roller skating.

Monica Teixeira, 23, met gomes through church, and was a leader of after school programs that Gomes attended.

“She was always very silly,” she told the newspaper. “She would always make people laugh, even when they were upset.”
