18-year-old ID’d as victim in fatal East Boston crash
The crash happened just prior to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
An 18-year-old man has been identified as the person killed in a violent traffic crash in East Boston Wednesday night.
Jonathan A. Hernandez, of Chelsea, was identified as the victim by the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office Thursday afternoon.
Authorities responded to the crash around 7:50 p.m. along Route 1A, also known as William F. McClellan Highway, near Addison Street.
The vehicle Hernandez was in careened into a telephone pole. Another teenager within the vehicle is believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to The Boston Globe. A second vehicle was also involved in the crash. The two had collided, sending one vehicle into the pole, the other striking a guardrail.
The force of the crash reportedly snapped the vehicle in two, WHDH reported. Power was shut off for more than 2,000 customers, and a utility pole at the scene was said to be leaning to one side.
On Thursday morning, roughly 800 customers were still without electricity, according to NBC10 Boston.
Route 1A had been closed in both directions Wednesday night, Boston police said. The southbound side remained shut down for a time Thursday morning, NBC10 reported.
