Officers responded to reports of a person shot in the area of 10 Mattapan St. around 4:57 p.m. Police found the woman, later identified as Eleanor Maloney, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police said two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds as well that were not life-threatening. They were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Maloney, a resident of Mattapan, died at the scene, according to police.

The 74-year-old retired from Boston Medical Center in 2015 after working there as an operating room technician for 44 years, according to CBS Boston.

“It’s so sad, I can’t believe it. I worked with her for like 30 years,” Keila Price, a former co-worker, told the station. “She gave me advice. I don’t believe it.”

Phyllis David, another former colleague, told the station that Maloney will be “dearly missed.”

“She was really someone that you could talk to, always had a helping hand, nice, sweet lady,” she said. “Innocent people are getting shot. Seventy-four years old. Come on. You can’t even sit on your porch.”

Friends and neighbors told The Boston Globe that Maloney, who was a grandmother, was originally from Barbados.

Pernell Pereira, a neighbor, told the newspaper that Maloney would often sit on her porch when the weather was good.

“I can’t make sense of that,” he told the Globe. “She was a real good woman.”

As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting, according to Boston police spokesman Sgt. John Boyle.

He said Maloney’s death was the 8th homicide in the city this year. By the same date last year, there were 14.

“The Boston Police Department continues to review the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident,” police said in a statement.
