Police: Drivers in Route 128 road rage incident will be charged

State police said the two women will face criminal charges including assault and battery.

State police say the two women involved in an incident of road rage on Route 128 will face charges in connection to the fight that briefly stopped traffic in Danvers on Friday.Police received reports of the physical altercation around 10 a.m. Friday, but, when troopers arrived at the scene in the southbound lanes, the women involved had already left. Authorities used video taken by a passing motorist to identify the two women. The women were identified by police as a 33-year-old from Gloucester and a 64-year-old from Beverly. The Gloucester woman is facing charges of assault and battery on a person over 60, disorderly conduct, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, stopping on a state highway, and assault. The Beverly woman is being charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct.

“This could have been a lot worse, and that goes without saying,” State police Lt. Michael Harvey told NECN. “Back in the day, people would beep the horn and maybe do a hand gesture. Those days are gone, and people are pulling weapons.”

State police did not identify the women being charged by name, but said both are being summoned by Salem District Court.

Additionally, an ‘immediate threat’ has been filed with the Registry of Motor Vehicles for both women,” police said. “Both women will have to appear before the RMV to obtain an active status on their driver’s licenses.”
