Natick police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a shooting that occurred in the lobby of the Crowne Plaza Hotel early Tuesday morning. Natick police, along with state police and other area departments, responded to reports of shots fired at the hotel on Worcester Street around 2:41 a.m. and evacuated the hotel as they searched for the reported gunman.“Initial units made an assessment to evacuate several of the hotel guests in an abundance of caution to secure the building in the event the suspect had remained in the building,” Natick police said in a statement. “Several areas were searched and secured until hotel facilities and management arrived allowing us access to the building’s video system.”Once reviewing the surveillance footage, police said it was made clear that the suspect in the shooting fled the area after firing a gun into the lobby without fully entering the building. Hotel guests were allowed to re-enter the building after crime scene documentation and ballistic collection was performed. In a portion of the surveillance video released by police, an individual can be seen running into and slipping through the hotel’s sliding doors into the lobby. A moment later a man is seen approaching the entrance and extending his arm through the space between the doors, appearing to fire a gun at the individual inside the building.

Police said they do not believe the suspect in the shooting is from the “direct area.”

“The victim sustained minor injury not believed to have been caused by gunfire,” police said. “The manner in which the victim and the assailant came to know each other and what precipitated the event are at task. We do not believe this event poses any additional threat to our community.”

Police asked anyone with information in connection to the shooting to contact the department at 508-647-9520 or anonymously through their website.
