Police searching for suspect in armed carjacking who led troopers on chase from Webster to Worcester
No one was injured, according to police.
Authorities are searching for an armed man who allegedly led state police on a car chase from Webster to Worcester early Thursday, carjacking another vehicle during the pursuit. State police said around midnight troopers were informed that Oxford police were pursuing a Dodge pickup that fled a traffic stop in Webster, carrying two female passengers and driven by a man who was reportedly armed. Police said the preliminary investigation into the sequence of events indicates troopers joined the chase in a secondary position after the vehicle entered Route 395 northbound. Around 12:17 a.m., stop sticks were successfully deployed against the vehicle, causing damage to the tires. “Several minutes later the suspect vehicle went up the ramp to Route 290 eastbound going in the wrong direction and crashed on the highway,” police said. The driver allegedly got out of the pickup brandishing a handgun and forced the driver of a silver Buick Enclave from their car before fleeing the scene of the crash in the vehicle registered out of Connecticut. According to police, the two passengers remained at the scene following the initial crash and are being interviewed by authorities. Police said they located the carjacked vehicle and continued the pursuit in Worcester, at one point chasing the suspect as he drove eastward on Route 290 on the westbound side of the highway. “Approximately a minute later, around 12:30 a.m., troopers terminated the pursuit as it entered the Kelley Square area,” police said. Police said that no one was injured during the events of the early hours and the investigation into the identity of the driver and his location is ongoing.
