The law enforcement department of the MSPCA is asking for the public’s help after a young Chihuahua mix died from heat stroke Tuesday morning after being abandoned inside a dog carrier in Brockton. The dog was found “trapped” in the container around 8:10 a.m. about halfway up the driveway for the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts in Brockton, the animal welfare agency said in a statement.By the time the brown and white dog was found by Joyce Caranci, the manager of the Brockton shelter, the air temperature was already in the 80s, according to the MSPCA.“When I found her, she was already unconscious and foaming at the mouth, but she was breathing faintly and I felt a heartbeat, so I immediately brought her to the Lloyd Animal Medical Center in Stoughton, but she died on the way,” Caranci said. The MSPCA said the 10-pound dog’s temperature was 110 degrees — the highest possible reading the thermometer could register. The pup was about a year-and-a-half old, wore no tags, and was not microchipped, according to the MSPCA. There were no labels or identifiers on the carrier. “This is a shocking instance of animal cruelty in which a young dog suffered an agonizing and totally preventable death — and we’re asking for the public’s help in bringing whoever is responsible for this to justice,” MSPCA law enforcement officer Nadya Branca said in a statement. The agency, which is leading the investigation, is offering a $1,000 reward for any information that leads to a conviction in the case. Anyone with information is being urged to contact the law enforcement department at 800-628-5808.
