Since it was posted March 21, the video has been retweeted more than 9,800 times.
“I didn’t expect that much from the video,” the 18-year-old from Louisiana told The Boston Globe. “I was just more so happy that I got in at the time.”
Wiltz called her senior year at T.M. Landry College Preparatory in Breaux Bridge “life-changing” and said she plans to study math with a concentration in biology with the end goal of becoming an anesthesiologist.
She told the newspaper that she hopes younger students who see the video of her college acceptance recognize that it’s about the opportunities she has received, not the attention she’s gotten on the internet.
“I don’t want what I did to be the focal point,” Wiltz told the Globe. “I want it to be encouragement and just more than me. I want it to reach other people that don’t have the confidence or courage to apply to colleges like Wellesley.”
