It was so icy in Sutton that a school bus carrying students slid down the street

Police said no one was injured.

Residents of Peach Tree Drive in Sutton witnessed a heart-stopping sight Tuesday morning when a school bus careened out of control down the icy road. Sutton police Lt. David Perry said there were about 20 middle and high school students aboard the bus when it slid down the neighborhood street at about 7:10 a.m., striking three mailboxes and an unoccupied car before it stopped. No one was injured. Perry said the driver of the car that was hit had already gotten out after having his own trouble with the icy road. In the video, the car has its hazard lights on and appears to have already slid partly off the road when it is struck by the bus. Cheryl Kearney Katz shared a video on Facebook of the hair-raising moment, which was filmed from a window of her house.

“It was scary because the bus was picking up momentum as it slid down the street,” Kearney Katz told Boston.com. “I was afraid it would roll over. I think the car that was hit was actually a blessing in disguise because it was able to stop the bus before anyone got hurt.”

National Weather Service forecasters warned early Tuesday for travelers to prepared for “slick, hazardous travel especially on untreated, secondary roadways” through the morning. A fast-moving storm is bringing rain and high winds to the region later in the afternoon.
