New Hampshire woman accused of beating 2 children with broomstick

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire woman has been accused of beating two children under her care with a broomstick.

Police have arrested 32-year-old Joyce Chance, of Concord, on two counts of second-degree assault. She faced arraignment Tuesday afternoon; it wasn’t immediately known if she had a lawyer.

Police said both children are under age 13 and have been removed from Chance’s care. They said school officials contacted authorities regarding concerns about the children in March.

Police and the state Division of Children Youth and Families began an investigation. They said in at least one incident, the children were beaten with a broomstick until the stick broke.
