Coast Guard: All found safe in Hull water search

The U.S. Coast Guard assisted local agencies Friday night responding to reports of people in the water near Peddocks Island and Hull Gut.The search began when Hull’s Harbormaster informed the Coast Guard of a possible person in the water around 10:44 p.m., later reporting that the person had swam to Peddocks Island wearing a life vest, according to the Coast Guard. A commercial vessel picked up the man, who was suspected of being intoxicated and had cut his foot, and transferred him to a Coast Guard lifeboat. The Coast Guard said that as its crew tried to determine if the man was alone or if others were in distress, the man “gave inconsistent reports of others in the water.” The man was taken to EMS that were standing by, and the Coast Guard crew joined the Hull Harbormaster, Boston Fire Department, and Mass Port boats in searching for other people who were possibly in the water. According to the Coast Guard, eventually a guardsman was able to get the names of the individuals being sought and with the help of Hull police, reached one of them by phone around 12:27 a.m. The search ended when it was confirmed they were never in the water and were all safe on land, according to the Coast Guard.
