Thieves return stolen flamingos displayed for leukemia awareness, donate to charity

The people responsible for stealing orange flamingos being displayed to support a young girl with cancer in Weare, New Hampshire, returned the lawn decorations and apologized in a letter sent to police.

Weare police said in addition to the apology, the letter contained some money, which will be donated.

“We are truly sorry for our actions and had no idea what the flamingos on Colby Road symbolized,” the letter reads. “We would never have taken them.”

The flamingos were being sold by 12-year-old Abby Van Dyke, who was diagnosed with leukemia, to raise awareness for the illness.
