New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan unhurt in Nashua car crash
New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan was involved in a car accident Thursday afternoon in Nashua, just before speaking at a local health care center.
The governor was uninjured in the crash and she proceeded to participate in the event at Harbor Care Health and Wellness Center in Nashua, according to Hassan’s spokesman William Hinkle.
According to Nashua Police Deputy Chief Denis Linehan, officers received word of the crash at 12:18 p.m.
Linehan said Hassan was being driven by a New Hampshire state trooper westbound on High Street when the state-owned Chevrolet Tahoe was hit by a black Volvo sedan at the intersection of School Street.
According to Linehan, the Volvo, driving north on School Street by 45-year-old Marc Thayer, of Nashua, failed to stop at a stop sign and proceeded through the intersection, striking the driver’s side of the passing Tahoe. Hassan was in the front passenger seat at the time of the accident.
Following a preliminary investigation, Linehan said Thayer appears to be at fault, though there appeared to be no ill intent on his part. According to officials, no one was injured and everyone involved reported wearing seat belts.
Thayer’s car was towed from the scene with front-end damage, while Hassan’s detail was able to continue to to her scheduled event.
Shortly before 1 p.m., she was speaking at the podium at the Harbor Care.
