Historic schooner runs aground during Windjammer Regatta in Maine

A historic ship ran aground with 25 guests and five crew members onboard during the Windjammer Regatta in Maine on Tuesday, authorities say.

The American Eagle, a 79-foot schooner, got stuck off Mount Desert Island at 3:15 p.m., according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

A Coast Guard crew and several good Samaritans helped the vessel, according to the Coast Guard. The rescue crews brought the guests safely to a local boat yard while crew members stayed behind to refloat the vessel during high tide.

No one was injured and the boat was not damaged.
