Man driving car in crash that killed his wife placed under house arrest

A judge placed a Lowell man under house arrest after he allegedly drove drunk during an Acton car crash that killed his wife.

The car Deeiyvid Hoepers was driving “left the roadway, struck a wall and a telephone pole and ended up in the driveway” on Tuesday, according to a Boston Globe report. His wife, Shannon Milhomme-Hoepers, 39, was airlifted to Emerson Hospital in Concord, where she was pronounced dead.

Hoepers, 35, was arraigned Thursday in Concord District Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of liquor, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor (second offense), negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and a marked lanes violation, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s office. He pleaded not guilty, reports the Globe.

The judge set bail at $25,000 cash and said Hoepers must surrender his passport and remain under house arrest with a GPS monitoring bracelet, cannot drive or take drugs or alcohol, and have an in-home sobrietor, said the DA’s office.

His next scheduled hearing is July 13.
