Salem State faculty member stabbed in academic building
A Salem State University faculty member was stabbed Wednesday evening in one of the campus’ academic buildings, a university official said.
Karen Murray Cady, a spokeswoman for the university, said a disturbance was reported around 5:15 p.m. on the main floor of Meier Hall. One of the school’s faculty members was attacked by a man, she said, and sustained a superficial, non-life-threatening wound to his neck. He was transported to Beverly Hospital for treatment.
The assailant was caught about a block away in Salem, she said, and transported to Salem Hospital.
Cady said a message was sent to the campus community saying the “threat is over” and that classes are resuming.
University, state, and local police are investigating.
