East Boston teen struck, killed while crossing the street in Randolph
Police are investigating the death of a teen from East Boston who was struck and killed by a car while crossing the street in Randolph on Tuesday evening.
Officials said Laura Viera, 15, was struck just before 8 p.m. while crossing at the intersection of Oak and Main streets. She was transported to an area hospital, where she died of her injuries.
Boston Public School officials confirmed Viera was a student in the district in a statement released Wednesday:
Superintendent Tommy Chang and the entire Boston Public Schools community express their deepest condolences to the family, friends and classmates of Laura Viera during this difficult time. The district has made its trauma response team available for students and staff who are affected by this tragedy. Additional resources are being provided to students, teachers, and families on how best to guide and support one another through their feelings of loss and grief.
The Norfolk District Attorney’s office said the driver remained at the scene and spoke with police. No charges have been filed.
