Traffic stop leads to drug trafficking arrests

State troopers seized cocaine, heroin, and more than $6,000 from two men during a traffic stop on Wednesday night in Brockton, according to a statement from police.

Trooper Gregory Furtado pulled over a speeding driver at about 10:20 p.m. and “located various illegal substances, including what was believed to be cocaine and heroin,’’ according to the statement. Police say they also seized more than $6,000 in cash.

Laroy Cox, 43, of Plymouth, was arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug, possession of a Class B drug, possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, drug violation near a school/park, conspiracy to violate the drug law, speeding, and following too closely, according to police.

Jean S. Joseph, 32, of Brockton, was arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine (subsequent offense), possession with intent to distribute Class A drug (subsequent offense), possession of a Class B drug, possession with intent to distribute a Class D drug, conspiracy to violate the drug law, drug violation near a school/park, and failure to wear a seat belt, according to police.

At their arraignment in Brockton District Court, Cox was held on $20,000 bail and and Joseph was held on $15,000 bail, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office. Their next court date is March 2.
