Boston cracks down on space savers after latest snowstorm

As the city collected space savers from the streets and asked residents to report violations on Tuesday, The Boston Globe‘s Dante Ramos, in an opinion piece , questioned Boston’s policy on the matter.

“Go ahead, just try explaining to the guy who just smashed your windshield or slashed your tires that he’s misunderstood the city’s nuanced rules about saving parking spaces,’’ wrote Ramos.
The city allows space savers only after declaring a snow emergency, and residents must remove the objects within 48 hours after the emergency has ended. But the policy is too easily abused, according to Ramos. He thinks Boston needs to use “tough love’’ and ban space savers completely.
