Man charged with drunken driving after striking pedestrian in crosswalk
A woman has “serious injuries’’ after an allegedly drunken driver hit her while she was walking across a Quincy street Thursday night, according to a statement by Quincy police.
The woman was walking in the crosswalk when she was struck, witnesses told police.
The driver of the vehicle, 45-year-old James Vickey, of Abington, pulled over immediately, police say. Witnesses told police Vickey was not speeding and the traffic light was green. He was asked to perform a series of sobriety tests.
“Based on the results of those tests, Mr. Vickey was placed under arrest,’’ wrote police in the statement.
Vickey was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
Vickey is due to be arraigned on Friday, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office.
