A state trooper was taken to Cape Cod Hospital after a wrong-way driver slammed head-on into his cruiser Wednesday night in Barnstable.

The trooper was treated for minor injuries and released, reports CBS Boston.

Police received a call about a wrong-way driver on Route 6 at 11:30 p.m., according to CBS Boston. The elderly motorist was driving a red pickup truck east on the westbound side of the road. When police tried to slow traffic with their cruisers to protect drivers on the road, the man driving the red pickup slammed into a police cruiser.
