Gov. Baker’s environmental officials are criticizing the MBTA for selling 1.75 acres of T land Wynn could use to build a road leading into its $1.7 billion casino complex in Everett, according to a Boston Globe report.

The sale violated state regulations, Deirdre Buckley, director of the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, said in an e-mail to representatives of the T and Wynn. That’s because the MBTA sold the land before the state could complete a review of traffic and environmental issues.

Revere Mayor Dan Rizzo said he was outraged by the deal in a statement released Wednesday, calling the deal “illegal,’’ as determined by the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA).

Wynn issued a release on March 3 calling the deal an important step toward its goal of building and opening the casino by early 2018.
