Former Framingham Dentist Gets One Year Sentence on Child Porn Charges
A former pediatric dentist who worked out of Framingham was sentenced Monday to one year at the Middlesex County House of Correction and three years’ probation following charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.
Melvin A. Ehrlich, 52, of Millis, pleaded guilty last Thursday to two counts of distributing material showing “a child in a state of nudity or sexual conduct’’ and three counts of possessing child pornography, according to a statement from the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
Ehrlich was first picked up by authorities in the spring of 2013 after a technician working to fix a virus on Ehrlich’s personal laptop found downloaded images of child pornography and reported Ehrlich to the Framingham Police. He was arraigned in April of last year and his practice — Wee Care for Kids — suspended. There was no evidence that Ehrlich had abused any of his patients or had created his own child porn, according to the DA’s statement.
“It was disturbing to find out that someone who had been a trusted medical professional was involved in child pornography,’’ Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said. “It’s frightening to think about the number of times people brought their children to Ehrlich’s dental practice having no idea that in his down time he was looking at disturbing and graphic images of other young people who were being exploited.’’
