Tufts Medical Center Station closed due to smoke caused by fire in electrical room; no injuries reported

The closed station Boston Fire Department

The Tufts Medical Center Orange Line station was evacuated and closed this morning due to smoke caused by a fire in a high-voltage electrical room, the Boston fire department said.

No one was injured in the incident, which was reported at 10:10 a.m. at the MBTA station on Washington Street, the department said.

The electrical room was on the southbound side of the tracks, just past the station platform, the department said. A smoldering 15,000-volt line was causing the problem.

MBTA Transit Police said at around noon that firefighters had finished their work and turned the station back over to the T, which planned to resume service but continue to bypass the station.

The T station is across from the main entrance to Tufts Medical Center, but the hospital was open and not affected by the station evacuation, the department said in official tweets.
