Vt. teacher gets $25,000 Milken award
A Vermont high school teacher has received a $25,000 Milken Educator Award, one of 40 educators receiving such an honor nationwide. Katie Sedore teaches English and language arts at Spaulding High School in Barre. She was presented the award at a school assembly Friday. Among those attending were Governor Peter Shumlin, Secretary of Education Rebecca Holcombe, and Mayor Thom Lauzon of Barre. Sedore is part of the school’s literacy team, developing its curriculum. She also runs the afterschool Homework Club, and teaches at Granite Academy, an alternative program started by Spaulding High’s special education department.
