Four groups apply to start charter schools in Maine
Four groups have submitted applications to start charter schools in Maine. The applications submitted by the Dec. 2 deadline include the Lewiston-Auburn Academy Charter School in Lewiston, Many Hands Montessori School in Windham, and two virtual charter schools, the Maine Connections Academy and Maine Virtual Academy. Members of Maine’s Charter School Commission will decide in January which applications should get a public hearing and a full review. There are five remaining charter school spots available under Maine’s charter school law.
