David Hutchinson went missing shortly after arriving in South Carolina late last year in hopes of striking it rich.

Authorities in South Carolina have charged two more people in the death of a Massachusetts man whose remains were found inside a trash can behind an abandoned house earlier this year.

Shaiquan Ramaal Foxworth and Travis Jermaine Godbolt, both 31, are each charged with murder, conspiracy, and desecration or removal of human remains in connection with David Hutchinson’s death, police in Marion, South Carolina, said Wednesday. Foxworth also faces charges of discharging a firearm within city limits and possessing a weapon during a violent crime.

It was not immediately clear whether either man had an attorney to speak on his behalf. A circuit court judge will set bond on the murder charges at a later date, Marion police said.

Hutchinson was first reported missing Jan. 12.

His family previously said the 32-year-old former Oakham, Massachusetts, resident was “lured” to South Carolina by a woman “who claimed to be an entrepreneur,” only to be “taken for his money” and dropped off at a “trap house.” However, Marion Police Chief Tony Flowers told Boston.com in February that officers spoke with the woman and deemed her “legit.”

“We started getting some more tips. Same thing, pretty much: that [Hutchinson] had been killed, and his body had been disposed of,” Flowers said at the time. “But they kept giving us different places of where the body may have been disposed of. We searched those areas, didn’t find anything.”

Marion police ultimately heard from a woman who said she’d seen several people pushing a trash can down the road toward the city’s downtown area one morning. On Jan. 29, an officer searched behind an abandoned house a few blocks away and found the garbage barrel containing Hutchinson’s body.

According to Flowers, a visit to the home where Hutchinson had been staying yielded another clue: 41-year-old Jaida Braddy, who allegedly admitted she’d helped dispose of Hutchinson’s body. Braddy has been charged as an accessory after the fact to murder.

Marion police said their investigation remains ongoing, encouraging anyone with information to call 843-423-8616.

“Thank you to our community for your help and cooperation with this senseless act of violence,” the department wrote on Facebook. “Your help provided us the needed information for these arrests and to help bring some sense of closure for the family in Massachusetts. They also want to thank you all for working with us to help bring justice for their son and brother.”
