An online marketplace meet-up at the Natick Mall turned sour Tuesday when the prospective buyer allegedly tried to make off with a $27,000, 6.1-carat diamond.

Keyjuan Webb, 23, of Beverly, purportedly dragged seller Kathleen Sanfacon several feet after she grabbed his ankles in an attempt to stop him, according to a Natick police report. He’s also accused of biting a bystander who intervened.

Police said Webb and Sanfacon connected through an online marketplace and agreed to meet at Bank of America inside the mall around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday to exchange the diamond for cash. Before the meet-up, Sanfacon introduced herself to bank employees and asked a teller if they could verify the $27,000 sum following the transaction.

But the sale quickly went off the rails, according to the police report. Webb purportedly asked if he could check the gem with a diamond tester, which later turned out to be a headlamp. Police say he snatched the diamond and tried to flee, dragging Sanfacon in the process.

When two bank employees rushed to help, Webb allegedly told them, “I’m going to kill you. I’m going to f***ing kill you,” and, “I have a gun.”

A Natick officer arrived at the scene to find several people holding a handcuffed Webb to the ground. He did not have a firearm on him when arrested, the police report noted.

Still, Webb “recklessly created a risk of public inconvenience, annoyance, and alarm by creating a physically offensive condition and threatening to use force,” police charged.

Sanfacon was taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital with injuries to her hand, elbows, and hip, according to police. While she did not respond to a request for comment Thursday, Sanfacon told WHDH the incident was “really scary.”

“I think it didn’t hit me until I was in the hospital. Then it really was terrifying,” she told the news outlet. Sanfacon also said she was grateful the bank employees stepped in to help.

“If it wasn’t for them, I’m sure it would have gone differently,” she added.

The employee Webb allegedly bit was transported to MetroWest Medical Center for treatment, and Sanfacon’s heart-shaped diamond was taken into evidence, according to police. Sanfacon purportedly told officers she’d won the gem and was looking to sell it for cash.

Webb pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of unarmed robbery, assault and battery, larceny, disorderly conduct, and two counts each of assault with a dangerous weapon and threatening to commit a crime. His attorney, Trevor Clement, declined to comment.

Judge David W. Cunis ordered Webb held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Friday.
