Male victim identified in Malden murder

The attacker and victim were apparently roommates.

Police have identified the victim of Sunday’s fatal attack in Malden as Brian McDonald, 34.

Joshua Roush, 43, allegedly killed McDonald, who was his roommate, after an argument escalated on Sunday night. Police responded to Presley Street for a report of an injured person around 10 p.m. on Aug. 15, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, and found McDonald on the sidewalk in front of the home with “multiple sharp force injuries.”

Roush was located inside the home and arrested.

The DA’s preliminary investigation suggests McDonald and Roush were arguing when Roush, armed with some type of weapon, attacked McDonald. Officers recovered multiple swords and other items from Roush’s bedroom after obtaining a warrant.

Roush was arraigned in court on Monday on a murder charge, and is being held without bail. He is due back in court on Sept. 29. The investigation is being conducted by the Middlesex DA’s office, Massachusetts State Police units, and the Malden Police Department.
