The Somerville man accused of shooting his roommate to death Wednesday night following an alleged argument is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.
Edson Moreno, 26, was arraigned in Somerville District Court on Thursday. He’s facing charges including armed assault to murder, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office in a press release from Wednesday.
Police were called to a two-family home on Ware Street around 5:44 p.m. for a report of a man shot inside. Officers allegedly found Moreno with a gun in his hand; he was asked to place it on the ground, which he did, and was arrested, the release said.
Inside the home, officers found 22-year-old Robert Favreau of Cambridge suffering from a gunshot wound. First aid was administered, but Favreau was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.
Favreau had reportedly been staying at the Somerville home “for several months,” the release said. The two allegedly began arguing when Moreno shot the victim.
Other charges against Moreno include assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and possession of a firearm. During his arraignment, he was also charged with assault and battery with a firearm in addition to the other charges, according to the district attorney’s office.
During a press conference Wednesday night, Ryan was asked about concerns of an increase in crime in the city, especially considering that a 16-year-old girl was shot and critically injured in Somerville earlier this month.
“Obviously that is something that I think everyone is concerned about especially as we head into the summer and clearly we are always looking at various incidents to see if there are patterns and connections,” Ryan said.
