Police: Bridgewater man arrested for watching pornography in public library
A Bridgewater man was arrested Wednesday after he was caught watching pornography in a public library and performing a lewd sexual act on himself, according to police. Fred Higgins, 43, was charged with lewd and lascivious conduct, annoying a person of the opposite sex, and disorderly conduct. Bridgewater police said officers responded to the Bridgewater Public Library on South Street around 3:30 after receiving a report that a man was watching pornography on a library computer. Upon arriving at the library, officers observed Higgins performing a lewd sexual act on himself, according to police.
Police said there were about 20 people in the surrounding area of the library at the time, including many teenagers.
“I commend the library director and his staff for recognizing the seriousness of the incident and taking quick action to insure the safety of others,” Bridgewater Police Chief Christopher Delmonte said in a statement. “Town libraries are symbolic and valuable public resources that benefit the community, especially our youth.”
