A texted tip helps police nab alleged drug dealer

Police officers, working from a texted tip, arrested an Oxford man and charged him with selling drugs in Worcester on Wednesday.

Undercover officers set up surveillance on a Worcester street, based on the tip. The police watched the area from an unmarked car. That’s when they say they noticed three men acting suspicious. Two of the men got into a Toyota, which was then driven about 150 yards before turning around and returning to the same spot, police say. The two men got out of the car, met with the third man again, and then went into an apartment. The third man walked away.

When officers approached the man who walked away, they say he stuffed an item in his mouth and swallowed the contents. Officers say he swallowed heroin bought from the driver of the Toyota. Officers asked a nearby marked police cruiser to stop the Toyota.

Richard Munger, 37, was the driver of the Toyota, say police. When the officers tried to talk to him, they reportedly noticed something in his mouth and ordered him to spit it out. Munger spit out six small bags of heroin, police say.

Munger was arrested and his car was towed to police headquarters for a more thorough search. While searching the car, police found six clear bags, each of them filled with about 10 bags of suspected heroin. They also say they found $471.

Munger was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, distribution of a Class A substance, and trafficking in heroin (18-36 grams). He is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
