Police: Man overdosed on heroin while driving, hit another car
Authorities say a Westwood man driving a car while high on heroin Wednesday caused a two-car crash in Arlington.
A man driving a Subaru Legacy was parked eastbound on Massachusetts Avenue at 6:30 p.m. when his car was hit from behind by a man driving a Ford Taurus, according to the Arlington Police Department. As the man got out of his car to inspect the damage, he noticed the man who hit him was unresponsive in his seat and immediately called 911, police said.
When officers and paramedics arrived on the scene, they determined the driver of the Ford had overdosed on heroin and administered a dose of Narcan, police said. The man regained consciousness and was taken to Mt. Auburn Hospital by ambulance.
The man driving the Subaru was not injured. Both cars were damaged and the suspect’s car was towed from the scene.
The suspect was charged with operating under the influence of drugs, operating to endanger, and a marked lanes violation. Police say his name will be released during his arraignment in Cambridge District Court.
