Here’s what Nigel, the kitten without a nose, looks like after the surgery to fix his face
He may have to rethink the nickname “No Nose Nigel.”
The kitten known as “No Nose Nigel” may have to change his username on Instagram. The young orange cat underwent successful reconstructive surgery Thursday at the MSPCA’s Angell Animal Medical Center to fix his face, which was missing a significant portion of his upper lip and nose. Mike Pavletic, head of surgery at MSPCA Angell, used a technique he developed — sliding the remaining left and right parts of Nigel’s lip forward — to close the kitten’s face and reconstruct his snout.“We’re happy to report that Nigel is out of surgery and his nose and face are gonna look a whole lot better,” MSPCA-Angell wrote on Facebook.

The stray feline was rescued in July and has been staying with foster families and at the MSPCA until he was big enough to have the procedure. He’s racked up more than 2,000 followers on Instagram, who’ve been kept up to date through his ordeal.

MSPCA-Angell said Friday they expect Nigel will be ready to be adopted in “the next week or so.”

What exactly caused Nigel’s face to fall off just a week after he arrived at the shelter isn’t known, though Pavletic said he thinks it had to have been trauma of some kind.
