There are always restaurants to look forward to in Greater Boston and New England, and sometimes the region’s restaurant openings catch the attention of national publications like Food & Wine magazine.

The food media outlet published on March 19 a list of restaurants their team of food writers and editors can’t wait to try this spring. The 12 eateries that made the cut vary by region and cuisine, from “ancestral European” in Cleveland to Mexican fine dining in Houston.

The restaurants are also all from chefs who have been named a best new chef by Food & Wine at some point in their career.

Of the 12 restaurants, three of them are opening in New England.

  • Willie’s, from Food & Wine’s Best New Chef 2011 Jamie Bissonnette, now open. The Beacon Hill neighborhood restaurant serves pizzas like the P.C.T. (crushed tomato, Titin olive oil, parmesan, and Basque pintxo), as well as pastas and appetizers with global influences. 20 Charles St., Beacon Hill
  • Ladyfish, from Food & Wine’s Best New Chef 2025 Jordan Rubin, opens May 1. Taking over the former Bar Futo space in Portland, this restaurant will combine some Maine seafood staples (like lobster rolls and oysters) with chef Christine Lau’s Chinese and Italian cooking experiences to make dishes like a Cantonese-style lobster frites. This restaurant is a summer pop-up concept that will run from May to October. 425 Fore St., Portland, Maine
  • La Tavernetta, from Food & Wine’s Best New Chef 2020 Douglass Williams, opens Spring. The chef behind MIDA is bringing a coastal tavern to Eastie near one of his MIDA locations. Details on menu specifics are scarce right now, but the team has teased that there will be oysters and spritzes. 35-45 Lewis St., East Boston
