The Boston Pops kicked off its holiday season this week with conductor Keith Lockhart at the helm, and the Dec. 3 performance included a world premiere.

Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens work “A Solder’s Carol: The Christmas Truce of 1914,’’ a tribute to the 100-year anniversary of the World War I Christmas ceasefire, was performed by the Pops for the first time. It was narrated by actress Karen MacDonald.

Wednesday’s Symphony Hall event was the first of a 41-concert holiday season spanning Dec. 3-31 for the Pops. Some of the special concerts offered include seven kids matinees and three post-Christmas concerts of the score to “Home Alone,’’ written by Pops conductor laureate John Williams, accompanied by the film.
