Black Mass premiered today at the Venice Film Festival, and from what we’ve heard: Critics are impressed. The word “Oscar’’ may have been thrown around here and there.

The Bulger biopic is making its international festival rounds, hitting Telluride and Toronto, before coming home to Boston for a special red carpet screening at Coolidge Corner Theatre on Sept. 15. The film opens nationwide Sept. 18.

Before the world premiere, the stars walked the film festival’s red carpet, where they were greeted by a handful or so screaming fans.
