The East Coast’s first 4-D cinema is here
Leg ticklers and smell-o-vision make their debut in Revere.
In a truly American attempt to fill theater seats, the newly revamped Showcase Cinema de Lux Revere has made its debut as the first MX4D movie house on the East Coast.
The technology by California-based MediaMation will rock audiences in their seats — literally — while deploying other sensory stimulations, including water blasts, scent releases, and my worst nightmare: “leg ticklers.’’ Moviegoers could also experience atmospheric changes, according to a release: “Patrons may feel their seats move during a car chase; a small spray of water during a swimming scene; a balmy wind during a romantic interlude.’’
The country’s first 4-D full-length movie theater opened in Los Angeles last summer with 100-seat location using similar South Korea developed technology, where apparently the high-tech cinema trend is all the rage.
The 70-seat Revere location soft opened last week with Jurassic World, and Fantastic Four joins the lineup Friday. Tickets range $16-$22.50.
