Report: Jared Leto In, Will Smith Out as Lead in Legendary’s ‘Brilliance’
Jared Leto is reportedly in talks to star in Legendary Pictures upcoming thriller, “Brilliance.’’
The Oscar-winning actor would be replacing Will Smith, according to Variety. Smith has apparently left the project in order to star in a yet-to-be titled flick on concussions in the NFL, which is being produced by Ridley Scott.
Leto, who took home an Academy Award for best supporting actor earlier this year (“Dallas Buyers Club’’), would be joining co-star Noomi Rapace in the Julius Onah directed film.
“Brilliance,’’ based on a 2013 novel by Marcus Sakey, is set in a society where one percent of the people who are born are savants (or “brilliants’’) with special abilities. The story follows a federal agent who must take down a savant terrorist who’s hell-bent on starting a civil war.
“Brilliance,’’ which would be Leto’s first major film since his Oscar-winning turn in “Dallas Buyers Club,’’ will be distrubuted by Universal, as part of the studios first-look deal with Legendary.
