‘Ghostbusters’ Heading Back to Theaters This Summer For 30th Anniversary
Get the Proton Packs ready. “Ghostbusters’’ is turning 30 this week.
A restored and remastered version of the iconic Harold Ramis flick will return to over 700 theaters on Aug. 29, according to Entertainment Weekly, as part of a wider anniversary celebration, which will include special events, collectible merchandise, as well as a new Blu-ray set.
A 30th anniversary Blu-ray edition of “Ghostbusters’’ and a 25th anniversary Blu-ray edition of “Ghostbusters II’’ are set to be released on Sept. 16. The upcoming release will mark the 1989 sequel’s first appearance on the Blu-ray format, and will also include never before seen deleted scenes.
“’Ghostbusters’ is still one of our studio’s most beloved franchises,’’ Rory Bruer, Sony’s president of worldwide distribution, to Entertainment Weekly. “I was lucky enough to work on the release of the film on its first run, so it’s a real thrill for me to see that it’s still connecting with audiences everywhere.’’
