Disney to Bring ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to Life
Another Disney princess is coming to life.
Riding on the successes of the recently released “Maleficent,’’ which made $70 million in its opening weekend, Disney announced that it plans to bring Belle and Beast to the big screen with a live-action adaptation of “Beauty and the Beast.’’
Bill Condon, who directed “Twilight: Breaking Dawn’’ parts one and two and “Dreamgirls,’’ will be at the helm, according to a Variety exclusive.
The 1991 animated version of the tale as old as time (see what I did there?) grossed an estimated $25 million at the box office and has done more than $200 million domestically as of 2012, according to IMDB.
“Beauty and the Beast’’ isn’t the only live-action Disney remake in the pipeline. Kenneth Branagh’s “Cinderella’’ and Jon Favreau’s “The Jungle Book’’ have already gotten the greelight.
IMDB has yet to set up a page for the upcoming live-action take, but we’ll keep you updated when anyone is cast.
